Signed once again by Leica, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra uses a four-sensor camera with specific functions. For general use it uses a Sony IMX989, which with its large size (one inch) should provide extraordinary light gathering. Its main claim is its ability to vary the aperture between f/1.9 and f/4.0 in two increments, allowing focus to be adjusted without software trickery.
The rest of the sensors also have 50 megapixel resolution, although their purpose and features are very different. There is a very bright ultra-wide lens that also functions as a macro, a telephoto with a focal length equivalent to 75mm and optical stabilization for intermediate close-ups (x3.2) and finally a fourth sensor equivalent to 120mm with a 5x optical zoom, expandable beyond using interpolation and AI.
The camera also benefits from advanced functions at the software level. Hobbyists looking to replace their compact camera will appreciate support for 14-bit UltraRAW DNG files, which store a massive amount of information (in no less gigantic size) for easy editing at the highest quality, as well as your own Adobe profile. Lightroom or the Vibrant and Authentic shooting modes, calibrated by Leica itself.
Such an impressive set is completed with a textured faux leather finish. According to Xiaomi, this special finish offers greater resistance to scratches and falls, improves the grip of the phone and provides a more pleasant touch.
Xiaomi has only communicated prices for China, where it will go on sale soon. There, the rates will range between 5,999 and 7,299 yuan (795-970 euros to change) for the 12+256 GB and 16 GB+1 TB models, respectively. The European variants will be revealed later.
