The Secretary of the United States Department of State, Antony Blinken, confirmed on Tuesday an attack against a US diplomatic convoy in the context of the conflict in Sudan between the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
“Yesterday, a US diplomatic convoy was shot at. All people are safe,” he told reporters from Japan, where he is at a summit of G7 foreign ministers.
Blinken, who has indicated that the incident is being investigated, has described the attack as “reckless, irresponsible and unsafe”, as reported by the ABC television network.
This Monday, and for the third consecutive day, there have been intense fighting between the two parties to the conflict in the country’s capital, Khartoum, as well as in other points of the Sudanese geography. After the outbreak of the conflict, the UN, which has indicated that it will try to stop the fighting for humanitarian reasons, has estimated the dead at 185 and the wounded at 1,800.
