17 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The head of the office of the United Nations Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) in Ituri, Karna Soro, has condemned the wave of attacks perpetrated this week by the Congo Development Cooperative (CODECO) that has left dozens of deaths in the province.

Soro, who has conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims, has indicated that “it is time for this massacre to stop”, as reported by the Radio Okapi station.

He has also indicated that MONUSCO is working day by day together with the Army and the DRC Government with the aim of restoring peace in Ituri.

Likewise, the head of MONUSCO in the region has appealed to the inhabitants not to confuse the opponents and to work together with the UN mission to achieve peace and cohesion, reports the aforementioned radio station.

The civil society of Djugu denounced this weekend the death of 62 people by CODECO against more than a dozen towns in the country in the northeastern province of Ituri.

The United Nations and local organizations estimate that more than 485 civilians have been killed in Ituri from December 1 to March 14; 333 of them only during the first quarter of this year in Djugu, and the vast majority at the hands of these militias.
