But PlayStation 5 dented its crown at the beginning of the year thanks to its improved availability in stores around the world, including the Japanese region. However, Nintendo Switch returned as the leader.
Although PlayStation 5 has managed to appear at the top of the sales list more frequently, Nintendo Switch has not been left behind, but in March withstood the onslaught of the Sony console and in the end managed to come away with victory.

Nintendo Switch scores one more victory against PlayStation 5
Thanks to sales estimates from Famitsu (via GamesIndustry.biz), we know that the Nintendo Switch sold just over 231,000 units between its 3 models from February 27 to March 26, 2023. In contrast, the 2 PlayStation 5 models sold just over 223,000 units, which meant that Sony lose first place in sales in the region.
Let’s remember that PlayStation 5 rebounded in sales at the beginning of the year and in February it managed to be the best-selling console in Japan and for the first time since the month of launch it took the crown of the sales list. In March, the Sony console did not have terrible sales, but they were not enough to surpass Nintendo Switch, which beat it with a difference of less than 10,000 units.

As always, Nintendo excelled in physical software thanks in large part to Kirby’s Return to Dream Land Deluxe, which debuted at the end of February and, although its initial sales did not help much to sell more Nintendo Switch, in March the title managed to sell just over 174,112 units. Second and third place went to the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions of Resident Evil 4 Remakewhich sold 89,662 and 85,371 units, respectively (it is important to mention that only the first 3 days of release of Resident Evil 4 Remakewhich went on sale on March 24, 2023).
