16 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –
At least two people have died and two others have been injured as a result of drone strikes in the Kurdish-Iraqi province of Sulemania, a week after the assassination attempt in that area on the commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Sources from the Kurdish agency Rudaw indicate that, as happened last weekend, Turkey was behind this attack, part of its operations against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, considered by Ankara to be a terrorist organization.
Specifically, the attacks this past Saturday reached three towns in the municipality of Penjwen, near the border with Iran.
“According to preliminary investigations, as a result of these shelling, two people were killed and two others were injured,” said Haval Abubakir, the governor of Solemania.
Abubakir has discussed these attacks in a phone call with Kurdish Prime Minister Masrur Barzani.
On the other hand, in the last few hours Iraqi security sources have reported the impact of a drone on a US military base at the Baghdad International Airport, with no casualties to lament.
The device was intercepted by the US Army and ended up crashing near a technical school at the airport.
The remains of the plane have been handed over to the Joint Coordination Center to determine its origin, if it contained explosives or if it was limited to surveillance missions.
