At least three civilians killed and nine injured in the outbreak of violence in Sudan

The Sudanese Doctors Union has reported at least three deaths and nine injuries due to clashes between the Army and the Rapid Action Forces (RSF) that broke out this Saturday in Sudan.

Two people have died at Khartoum Airport and another has died in the city of El Obeid, capital of the state of North Kordofan. At the moment there is no information on military victims or deaths in other parts of the country where there is evidence of outbreaks of violence.

In addition, the Sudanese Doctors Union has called on all humanitarian organizations working in Sudan and Red Cross and Red Crescent organizations to intervene “urgently” to facilitate the evacuation of the wounded.

The union speaks of “many martyrs and wounded” who have not been able to get access to provide medical care due to the clashes. They also ask for help to be able to perform intravenous tests and purchase bags of blood and other medical supplies.

The clashes have broken out just hours after the Army and the RSF expressed their intention to start urgent negotiations to resolve their differences over the process of integrating both forces into a unified army, tensions that have paralyzed the political transition agreement in the country.

The clashes mark the culmination of weeks of discord just as the country seemed to be about to successfully close the so-called Transition Framework Agreement that provides for the handover of power to a civilian government.
