The Qatari prime minister affirms that the return of Damascus to the organization is “speculation”

The Prime Minister of Qatar, Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al Zani, declared on Thursday that the possible return of Syria to the Arab League is nothing more than “speculation” and has maintained that the reasons for keeping Damascus out of the group “still stand “.
Al Zani has assured in an interview for Qatar TV that “there is nothing on the table” regarding the return to the Arab League as a result of the normalization of bilateral relations between some Arab countries and the Syrian government, according to ‘Al Watan ‘.
“All that is being talked about on the subject is speculation,” he assured, indicating that “there were reasons to suspend Syria’s membership and to boycott the Syrian regime at that time: “These reasons still exist, at least for the State of Qatar as the Syrian people remain displaced and innocent people are in prison,” he said.
The Qatari head of government has stressed that his cabinet “makes its decision as a single state” and that they maintain “not taking any step if there is no clear political progress.”
“For our part, we do not want to impose solutions on the Syrian people, because they are the ones who must reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis,” he asserted, indicating that he hopes “there will be a solution as soon as possible.”
The Council for the Cooperation of the Arab States of the Gulf (CCG) will hold a meeting this Friday precisely to address ties with Syria, within the framework of a thawing of the almost total isolation in the region to which Damascus was subjected after the outbreak of the war in 2011, when the Arab League suspended membership of Damascus in protest of the violent crackdown with which government forces responded to opposition demonstrations.
In addition, the Arab League plans to hold a summit in May to address the possible re-entry of Syria into the organization and the possibility of Syrian President Bashar al Assad participating in the meeting is being considered, which would mean his return to the regional scene. .
