NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070: how powerful is the new Ada Lovelace architecture graphics card

NVIDIA has officially announced the new GeForce RTX 4070 GPU, designed with all the advancements of the NVIDIA Ada Lovelace architecture. The RTX 4070 includes features like DLSS 3 neural rendering, real-time ray tracing technologies, and the ability to run most modern games at 100+ frames per second at 1440p resolution. All this with a starting price of $599.

PC gamers today seek high-quality visual experiences, with 83% of GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards enabling ray tracing and 79% enabling DLSS. The third generation of DLSS, a revolutionary breakthrough in AI-powered graphics, significantly improves performance.

Matt Wuebbling, vice president of global GeForce marketing at NVIDIA, said that turning on ray tracing and DLSS has become a top priority for most PC gamers. Furthermore, he highlighted that the RTX 4070 is an incredible upgrade for those using older generation GPUs, starting at $599.

Optimal gaming for NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070

The RTX 4070 allows gamers to enjoy recent and demanding titles like A Plague Tale: Requiem, Dying Light 2, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, at over 100 frames per second thanks to DLSS 3. It is also compatible with popular games like Battlefield 2042, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy already using DLSS 2.

DLSS 3 creates new AI-powered, high-quality frames for smoother visualization and gameplay, accounting for seven out of eight pixels in a scene. Latency is reduced by NVIDIA Reflex, which optimizes communication between devices and monitors.

Ray tracing performance has also been significantly improved thanks to innovations like Shader Execution Reordering (SER), next-generation Opacity Micromap, and displacement micromesh engines. These advancements allow even the most demanding games to implement multiple ray tracing effects or even full ray tracing, also known as Path Tracing, for greater immersion and realism.

The combination of third-generation ray tracing and DLSS has resulted in a 16-fold increase in ray tracing operations per pixel in the last five years. Adoption rates have been increasing rapidly, with over 400 RTX games and apps available, and DLSS 3 adoption is seven times faster than its predecessor.

GeForce RTX 4070 performance

Compared to the RTX 2070 SUPER, the new GeForce RTX 4070 offers 2.6 times the average performance with DLSS 3 and 1.4 times the performance of the GeForce RTX 3080 also with DLSS 3.

While DLSS 3 provides a significant performance boost to Ada Lovelace GPUs, the GeForce RTX 4070 also excels in traditional games that lack advanced features like ray tracing and DLSS. In these rasterized games, the GeForce RTX 4070 matches the performance of the GeForce RTX 3080 but with almost half the power and an additional 2 GB of memory.

In addition, the RTX 4070 features enhancements to its memory subsystem, including 36MB of L2 cache and 12GB of ultra-high-speed GDDR6X memory, allowing gamers to enjoy optimal gaming experiences across a wide variety of titles. .
