The President of the United States, Joe Biden, landed on Tuesday night in Belfast, where he was received by the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, as part of his official two-day trip to Northern Ireland to coincide with the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Good Friday Agreements.
Sunak –accompanied by the British Minister for Northern Ireland, Chris Heaton-Harris– exchanged greetings with Biden on the runway at Belfast International Airport after the US president descended the stairs of Air Force One.
Meanwhile, numerous people waited for their official car to pass through the streets of the city. The Police have closed several roads to guarantee the safety of Biden’s transfer to his hotel, the newspaper ‘Belfast Telegraph’ has reported.
During the flight, the spokesman for the US National Security Council, John Kirby, has stated that Biden will meet members of “all political parties in Northern Ireland” with the aim of expressing their “commitment” within the framework of the anniversary.
On his agenda, Biden, in addition to meeting with Sunak, plans to visit the coastal city of Carlingford and the University of Ulster. Likewise, she will hold a meeting with the Irish Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar, before addressing the Lower House of the Irish Parliament, the BBC has reported.
