The delegation, led by Rep. Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, also includes Reps. Young Kim, Ami Bera, French Hill, Guy Reschenthaler, Madeleine Dean, Michael Lawler and Nathaniel Moran.
During their three-day stay, the legislators will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Lai Ching-te, attend banquets hosted by Legislative Yuan Chairman You Si-kun and Foreign Minister Jaushieh. According to MOFA, McCaul, who is visiting Taiwan for the first time, is one of the island’s staunchest supporters in the US Congress and has been a driving force behind all major congressional actions and resolutions they have endorsed. to Taiwan in recent years, including the Taiwan Policy Act.
At a time when the global and regional political landscapes are undergoing rapid changes and Taiwan is facing increased threats and coercion from China, the visit underscores the strong bipartisan support of the US and the importance it places on peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific, the ministry said.
