A new massacre attributed to the ADF militias leaves at least 25 civilians dead in northeast DRC

8 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

A new massacre perpetrated on Friday by militias of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) has left at least 25 civilians dead in the Congolese territory of Beni, in the northeast of the North Kivu province.

The massacre occurred near Oicha, the capital of the territory, and was confirmed this Saturday by medical, security and civil society sources to the 7SUR7 news portal, amid strong tension in the surrounding towns.

“We are talking about more than 20 deaths,” the mayor of Oicha, Nicolas Kikuku, has made known, in a figure later raised to 25 by the medical services and civil organizations in the area.

In addition, a still unknown number of people could have been kidnapped by the militias during their attack.

The ADF is an Islamist organization of Ugandan origin that in 2019 swore allegiance to the terrorist organization Islamic State in Central Africa (ISCA), to which it would remain linked to this day.

These militias are one of the bloodiest armed groups on the African continent, and have been accused by the United Nations of killing more than 1,200 civilians in 2021 with a massacre.
