The UNIFIL leader has spoken with authorities in Lebanon and Israel and affirms that “they do not want a war”
7 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) carried out airstrikes in southern Lebanon early Friday, after accusing the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), with a presence in the Gaza Strip, of being behind the launch of more than thirty rockets from southern Lebanon on Thursday.
According to an IDF statement, “the infrastructure of the terrorist organization Hamas” has been attacked, assuring that “they will not allow Hamas to operate from Lebanon.”
In addition, they have been blunt regarding the country’s authorities: “We consider the State of Lebanon responsible for all launches from its territory.”
According to the first information, the attacks would have reached the Palestinian refugee camp of Rashidiya, in the south of the country, near the city of Tire and about 20 kilometers from the border with Israel, according to the Lebanese newspaper ‘L’Orient le Jour ‘.
The Lebanese television channel Al Manar, linked to the Shiite party-militia Hezbollah, has also reported that the missiles have reached the area around the small town of Qlaileh, south of Rashidiya and closest to the border.
The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has confirmed that explosions have been heard near Tire and has called on Lebanon and Israel to “immediately stop all actions that cross the Blue Line”, since “the actions of the last day are dangerous and could lead to an escalation of the conflict”.
They have also confirmed that the leader of the mission, General Aroldo Lázaro, is speaking with authorities on both sides of the Line, and that both have assured that “they do not want a war.”
Hours before Israel reported the attacks from Lebanon, the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah had denounced in a statement the assault carried out by Israeli security forces on Tuesday night at the Al Aqsa mosque, located in Jerusalem, when dozens of faithful were celebrating the month of Ramadan.
BOMBING CONTINUES IN THE GAZA STRIP
The IDF has also confirmed new attacks on the Gaza Strip, announcing that it has destroyed an underground shaft next to a weapons manufacturing site, three such suspected weapons production sites and another Hamas tunnel.
They have once again affirmed that “Hamas bears the responsibility for what happened and is the one who will pay the price for the security violations against the State of Israel,” through a statement.
The Palestinian agency Wafa has assured that these latest attacks have damaged the Muhammad al Durrah Hospital and have affected several houses in the Al Tuffah neighborhood, in the eastern Strip.
According to the agency, at least six missiles were fired, also hitting the headquarters of the Civil Administration in Jabalia, near the northern border. They would also have hit the city of Deir al Balah, in the center of the Strip, and the city of Khan Yunis, in the south.
Israel has activated the red alert in the cities of Sderot and Nir Am, in the south.
