Without specifying the reasons, Sturgeon filed last February her resignation as chief minister and leader of the SNPwhich gave way to an internal election, which gave victory to the continuist candidate, Humza Yousaf.

Last month, Murrell tendered his resignation as executive director of the SNP after the conjectures that he could submit to a vote of no confidence by the members of the Executive of the formation.

Murrell’s resignation was effective immediately and came amid discontent in the ranks of the formation over the drop in the number of affiliates to the nationalist formation and on alleged irregularities in party finances.

In May 2021, the then SNP National Treasurer, Douglas Chapman, resigned after less than a year in office on the grounds that he “had not received the necessary financial information“to carry out their tasks.
