The unions threaten again with a garbage strike in Paris for the pension reform

4 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) of France has formally presented a strike notice to paralyze the garbage collection service in the capital, Paris, with the aim of demanding the withdrawal of the pension reform promoted by the Government .

The branch of the CGT in charge of the collection and disposal of waste has written to the Paris City Hall with this warning, in which it invites all workers to join the mobilizations called by the unions against the reform, according to the newspaper ‘ Le Figaro’.

The letter also includes a direct appeal to the mayoress, the socialist Anne Hidalgo, who has also questioned a law that raises, among other issues, raising the retirement age to 64 years. “He has reasons to support this social movement and want it to expand,” the text reads.

The garbage strike in Paris, which ended on March 29 after three weeks of strikes, has been one of the most symbolic and visible movements of this wave of protests. Up to 10,000 tons of garbage accumulated in the streets of the French capital, according to data released by the City Council itself.
