Some days ago we saw how Elon Musk commented that the verification mark system would be eliminated for those users who did not pay Twitter Bluebut it seems that between that announcement and today, there has been some kind of internal change of plans, because the users who had a verification under the old system have kept it.
Now, when we go to the profile of some user with the checkmark, the message is ambiguous, indicating that the user has a checkmark, but it may be for paying it or for deserving it under the old system, without clarifying either of the two.
This could be because removing these checkmarks from the old system would be more difficult than expected, because users of extensions like Eight Dollarswhich allows us to know if we are talking to a notorious user or simply someone who has paid for Twitter Blue, they can still tell who is who.
This is quite an interesting situation, because between the original promise to remove the check marks, and the current situation, something has had to happen internally -possibly of technical origin- for the platform to be currently working like this.
