Burkina Faso destroys an Islamic State base in an operation in the north of the country

3 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The security forces of Burkina Faso have destroyed a base used by the jihadist group Islamic State in the east of the country during an operation carried out together with “volunteers” due to the upsurge in attacks by terrorist groups.

According to information collected by the Burkinabe state news agency, AIB, the operation was carried out in Kantchari and resulted in the death of several suspects, although the Burkinabe authorities have not yet provided an official balance.

Likewise, it has indicated that during the day of Sunday bombardments were carried out against positions of the Support Group for Islam and Muslims (JNIM), a branch of Al Qaeda in the region, in Nassoumbou (north).

Burkina Faso has seen a sharp increase in jihadist attacks in recent years, the work of both al Qaeda and Islamic State affiliates in the region. Abuses by the security forces against the population have helped these groups in their recruitment efforts.
