( Spanish) — During the month of April, independent workers in Mexico or those who are registered in the Tax Administration System (SAT) as natural persons must present their annual tax return in which they could receive a balance in favor or against.

How to know if you have a credit balance on the SAT?
Taxpayers have a credit balance when they pay more than what they were obligated to pay, according to the SAT. You will be able to know this at the time of making the annual declaration where the taxes are calculated. If it turns out that you paid more, you can request the return of the balance in favor of the tax agency.
Within the platform there is a microsite where the annual declaration simulator is, there with your RFC (Federal Taxpayer Registry), password or electronic signature, you can enter and see a preliminary of your declaration.
Within this simulator is already the preloaded information of your movements during the year.
How to request a tax refund in the SAT?
To request the return of the balance in favor, it is enough to provide your interbank CLABE (bank code) and the name of the bank at the time of making the annual declaration, that is, before sending it.
Then go to the section returns and compensation, click on “request your return”, enter the system by completing the form with your data and upload the scanned documents that are required. Choose the return and signature option and send the procedure with the support of your electronic signature. The SAT will grant the electronic acknowledgment with folio that can be downloaded and printed.
In order for the return of the annual declaration of the previous fiscal year to proceed automatically, you must present it no later than July 31, according to the tax agency.

How do I know if I have a negative score on the SAT?
In the event that a negative balance results, you will have to pay the amount corresponding to the SAT. You can pay in a single display, or in installments.
The SAT offers a term of up to 36 monthsTherefore, the taxpayer who is in this situation must make an initial payment of 20% and 80% will be covered in the terms agreed with the tax agency, but keep in mind that the following interests will be charged:
From 1 to 12 months: 1.26%
From 13 to 24 months: 1.53%
From 25 to 36 months: 1.82%
