Romanian Justice frees ‘streamer’ Andrew Tate and his brother and places them under house arrest

An appeals court in the Romanian capital, Bucharest, has ordered the release of British-American former boxer and streamer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan, who have been placed under house arrest for 30 days.

Said court has rejected the proposal to extend the duration of the preventive arrest imposed against both brothers and two other Romanian citizens accused of having constituted an organized criminal group, according to the British channel Sky News.

Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested late last year, although neither have yet been officially charged. The Romanian Justice has rejected various appeals for his release on up to four occasions.

The Romanian Prosecutor’s Office accuses both brothers of having formed an organized criminal group with which they recruited, housed and forced women to create materials with pornographic content for later distribution.

With the help of the other arrested Romanians, the alleged criminal organization tricked women in the United States and the United Kingdom into Romania, feigning reciprocal love and promising a marriage relationship.

The arrest took place after the ex-boxer posted a video on social networks and in which he responded to a mockery of the young environmentalist Greta Thunberg, all of it eating pizza from a popular Romanian pizzeria chain.

After that, the Organized Crime and Terrorism Investigation Directorate (DIICOT) issued an arrest warrant for Tate and his brother, for which special Gendarmerie troops were mobilized who entered their villa and arrested them.
