The president of the United States, Joe Biden, visited the community of Rolling Fork, in the State of Mississippi, on Friday to offer support to the place, where a tornado last week left a landscape devastated with collapsed houses and cuts of the main services.
“The resilience of this community has been remarkable. And I just want you to know that as you fight this, you are not alone. The American people will be with you. They will help you get through it, and so will I,” Biden said in a public appearance released by the White House.
The tornadoes devastated areas of Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee on Friday of last week, at night, however, the strongest were felt in Rolling Fork.
The president reported the availability of government funds for the removal of debris, keeping people’s shelters in perfect maintenance, as well as other essential services at this time.
The White House reported that at least 1,700 people had registered on the digital portal of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
In Rolling Fork alone, the tornado destroyed 300 homes and businesses. Across Mississippi there were 21 deaths, reported Associated Press.
