UAE sends urgent food and medical supplies to Afghanistan

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has sent this Thursday a plane with 38 tons of urgent medical and food supplies to “help the hundreds of Afghan families affected by the recent earthquakes in the northeast of the country “.

“The delivery of these supplies is part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to provide to countries affected by natural disasters and improve humanitarian support for vulnerable groups such as women, children and the elderly,” this ministry said in a statement.

The earthquake occurred on March 21 and had a magnitude of 6.8, affecting Pakistan, India and Afghanistan. In the latter, it left at least three dead and 44 injured.

The United Arab Emirates’ humanitarian efforts for Afghanistan from 2021-2022 have included the launch of a 28-plane relief airlift carrying 623 tons of food and medical supplies, benefiting an estimated 1.1 million people, including 850,000 women. and kids.

They also helped mitigate the impact of the earthquake that struck the city of Khost in southeastern Afghanistan in June last year, building a 1,000-square-meter field hospital that includes 75 beds and receives 200 patients daily.

In addition, the UAE sent medical supplies and equipment specialized in treating injuries caused by natural disasters.
