BERLIN, March 31 (DPA/EP) –
The German Government has reached an agreement this Friday to carry out a new energy law that establishes that from 2024 the new heating systems must work with at least 65 percent renewable energy.
“The fact that the draft of the Energy for Construction Law is already a joint project of all government parties, we hope will calm the debate and ensure that this important and difficult issue is discussed calmly and sensibly”, has specified the German Minister of Economy, Robert Habeck.
Under the agreement, starting January 1, 2024, every newly installed heating system will have to be powered by at least 65 percent renewable energy. However, there will be exceptions, transition periods and full funding to adopt the measure.
Specifically, the aforementioned 65 percent rule will not apply to owners over the age of 80, except when their home is inherited or sold, as the new legislation will enter into force with a two-year transition period.
Likewise, the new law does not oblige to replace gas and oil heating systems that break down after 2024 with modern systems, but after a while, after the installation of an old boiler, such a transition will have to be carried out.
Germany has legally committed to becoming greenhouse gas neutral by 2045. Also, keep in mind that the European country is heavily dependent on importing Russian gas, the supply of which has plummeted since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. of the Kremlin.
