Retired soldiers demonstrate in Beirut to demand an increase in their pensions

March 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Hundreds of retired soldiers have gathered this Thursday in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, in front of the headquarters of the Government presidency to demand an increase in their pensions in the context of the worrying economic crisis that the country is experiencing.

The protest began a few kilometers from the Plaza de los Martyrs, in the vicinity of the Lebanese Central Bank, where some protesters have tried to enter by force, being repelled by the Lebanese security forces, reported the newspaper ‘L’Orient- Le Jour’.

It is not the first time that retired soldiers have demonstrated in Beirut to demand an improvement in their pensions in the midst of a serious economic crisis that is plaguing the country and that has caused an increase in the price of basic foods.

Added to this is the serious political crisis that the country is going through. The acting prime minister of Lebanon, Nayib Mikati, has been the resigned prime minister since the end of the previous legislature, with the election of a new Parliament in May, without an agreement between the different parties for the replacement. in government.
