It seems that a step forward has been made in the privacy of Facebook users in Europeand it is that as we can read in gizmodoFacebook users will be able to get rid of targeted ads within the Facebook and Instagram app starting next week, based on a decision of the regulatory bodies.
This comes from January of this year, where the privacy regulators of the European Union put in an order explaining that users should not be forced to accept targeted advertisements when they are registering with a platformhaving to provide an option to decide if we want these ads or not.
However, Meta has done the absolute minimum, as usual when it comes to user privacy, so the option will remain active on users’ devices. and they will be the ones who should look for the option in the application settings to get rid of continuous monitoring in them.
On the other hand, this change will only affect European users, so users in other regions like the United States will continue to receive personalized ads.
