Welcome Fair DISE recognized the work of the UdeC community in fighting fires

The Student Services Directorate (DISE) presented its Welcome Fair, in which more than twenty organizations and services from the University of Concepción showed first-year students all the alternatives for support, recreation, and complements to academic life that the institution offers.

In the instance, in addition, two students and an official who belong to the Fire Department were recognized, and who in that capacity contributed to the work of extinction of the fires that occurred in the summer of 2023, in different communes of the region.

Various UdeC authorities were present at the inauguration, headed by the Vice Chancellor, Paulina Rincon Gonzalez, who pointed out that “we are happy to welcome our students. In this fair we show you all the resources that the University makes available to you, not only departments of the central organization, but also student organizations, the library, CADE and thus a large number of resources. We want to show them that they are part of a community of people and there are many activities to do besides studying. We invite you to take advantage of the university and also, to know that there are support resources when sometimes things don’t go as well as we would like and we need a hand”.

The Director of Student Services, Cecilia Perez Diaz, stressed that this year they wanted to give a different stamp to the activity. “We want to embrace those who have been affected by the emergency this summer and highlight the participation of our community in supporting the victims. In other words, in addition to showing all the University’s services, we want those who enter this year to know that this is an institution committed to its community.”

First-year Civil Engineering student, Soledad Barra Pincheira, commented that “this is a good activity, it helps us to be informed and to have a guide”. Regarding this first month of classes, he explained that “the most difficult thing to achieve has been adapting to the classes and among the good things, is being able to enjoy this great campus.”

Recognition

During the inauguration ceremony, recognition was given to two students and an official who supported the firefighting efforts this summer. they are Sandra Gomez Cernathird year student of Biomedical Civil Engineering, Vincent Gonzalez Codinathird year student of Dentistry and Nicholas Rivera Rojasofficial of the Directorate of Personnel.

About recognition, nicholas rivera He pointed out that, in his case, he drove an emergency vehicle and also participated in firefighting. “Driving was the most complex, because it was generally at night and with poor visibility due to smoke.” Regarding the support of the UdeC, he indicated that “it has been positive. That they recognize us like this gives us a lot of encouragement to continue forward ”.

The fair continued with open entertaining dance and yoga classes, while the stands will be open until 4:00 p.m.
