The Israeli National Security Minister, the far-right Itamar Ben Gvir, published a resolution on Wednesday detailing that the creation of a National Guard aims to “restore governance” in Israel.
“A National Guard is a basic critical need for the State of Israel, without which we will not be able to protect our citizens to combat terrorism, nationalist crimes and restore governance in the cities,” said party leader Otzma Yehudit. (Jewish power).
The new body, according to the resolution published this Wednesday that will be presented to the cabinet on Sunday, will have an initial budget of more than 1,000 million shekels (257 million euros), as reported by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
The Israeli Minister of National Security will establish a committee made up of different officials from the police and defense sectors who will present their recommendations for the implementation of the resolution, scheduled for 60 days from now.
Ben Gvir met the day before with the police chief, Kobi Shabtai, to discuss the measure, which for certain opposition groups involves the creation of a private militia to meet the political needs of the far-right.
