Shein gift cards: the hook to the scam
These types of posts are made by fake profiles that invite you to click on an apocryphal link, with gift cards being the bait. This in order to send the user to a page that is not the official one of the clothing brand in order to collect their personal data and, if possible, bank, to carry out fraud.
Given this, the official page of Shein published a message indicating that it is a scam and that “within the official Shein contests, we never ask our followers to pay or share personal information.”
In turn, they requested that they not participate in any paid raffle activities that have been published on unofficial Shein channels. The official account of the brand in Mexico is @shein_mex.
How to avoid being tagged in Shein spam
If you receive these types of notifications, it probably came from unknown accounts or accounts that you don’t follow. Therefore, there is a way in which you can prevent unknown accounts from tagging you. What you have to do is:
- Enter your user profile on the Instagram platform and select “Settings”
- Select the “privacy” tab and then “mentions”
- In this section, you can choose to only be mentioned by “people you follow” or “no one”. Choose the one that interests you the most.
- Also, in the “privacy” tab, you can choose the “publications” option.
- In the “who can tag you” section, select the “people you follow” or “nobody” option.
- One last thing you can also do is “manually approve tags”, where you can choose who can tag you in their photos and videos.
