OneWeb completes its constellation of Internet access satellites

March 27 () –

OneWeb has completed the constellation of satellites necessary to provide communications service and Internet access with global coverage by the end of this year.

A total of 36 satellites have been successfully deployed after its launch on March 26 by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), from the Satish Dhawan Space Center (SDSC-SHAR) in Sriharikota. OneWeb’s satellites successfully separated from the rocket and spread out into nine phases over a period of 1 hour and 14 minutes, and the acquisition of signals in the 36 satellites was confirmed.

This was OneWeb’s 18th launch, the third this year, bringing the total OneWeb constellation to 618 satellites. OneWeb’s constellation design calls for 588 satellites for global coverage and additional satellites are planned for resiliency and redundancy.

Thanks to the successful latest launch, “by the end of the year OneWeb will be ready to roll out global coverage, enhancing its existing connectivity solutions already available in regions north of 50 degrees latitude as it brings new areas online by partnering with leading suppliers,” reported it’s a statement.

OneWeb is a global communications company founded by Greg Wyler located in London and Virginia (USA). It is a joint venture with Airbus Defense and Space.
