March 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Tunisian Coast Guard has reported the rescue of eleven migrants and the recovery of 29 bodies after a boat capsized near Mahdia, in Mediterranean waters.
The survivors are sub-Saharan migrants, a spokesman for the Coast Guard, Hossameldin el Gabali, explained in an official statement, according to the Tunisian station Mosaique FM.
At first, the survivors and up to eight corpses were rescued. Another 19 bodies were recovered by a fishing boat and two more were recovered by two other fishing boats near Sfax.
The boat would have departed from the town of Yebniana, in the governorate of Sfax. The Prosecutor’s Office is already investigating what happened in coordination with Civil Protection and the hospitals that have received the bodies.
