3rd place: QS Ranking places UACh Agriculture and Forestry areas among the best in the country

Communications UACh.-The Austral University of Chile is one of the best institutions in the country to study careers in the Agriculture and Forestry area. This is confirmed by the latest edition of the prestigious QS World University Rankings, which includes the UACh among the 400 best universities in the world.

Likewise, the measurement states that the areas of biological sciences and environmental sciences are positioned in fourth place nationally, experiencing constant improvement.

The QS Latin America University Rankings 2023 uses five basic criteria: impact and productivity of research, teaching commitment, employability, online impact and internationalization.

Specifically, the UACh in the areas of Agriculture (Agriculture) and Forestry (Forestry) shares third place with the University of Concepción, while Biology (Biological) and Environment (Environmental) ranked fourth, only behind PUC , UCh and UdeC.

Rector Dr. Hans Richter highlighted that this position in the prestigious QS ranking reflects the high-level scientific and educational work carried out by the Universidad Austral de Chile in these areas. “This knowledge is transferred to undergraduate and graduate students, along with contributing to the regional communities in which our institution is located,” he stressed.

Disciplinary areas: agriculture and forestry

The Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences of the Austral University of Chile, Dr. José Dörner, stated that “we are very happy with the positioning of the research carried out by the academics of the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences, which is fair recognition of our contribution to the sustainable development of the agri-food chain, not only from the point of view of research, but also as a basis to support the training of agronomists and food engineers and postgraduates”.

The Dean added that “the research projects that are carried out in our macro-unit are essential for this achievement and we will continue to be committed to contributing to the positioning of the Faculty and the University in this area, in order to consolidate our aspiration to lead agri-food sustainability.”

For his part, the Dean of the Faculty of Forest Sciences and Natural Resources, Dr. Alfredo Aguilera, expressed that “with great satisfaction we see the positioning of the Forest Sciences area in the QS ranking, which for this 2023 version places us in the 151-200 range globally. This is the result of the hard and systematic work of academics, research groups, students, thesis students, administrative support staff and, in general, the entire community of this Faculty. It is a significant recognition for our Faculty, which shows the maturity and consistency in the high level performance with which the academic and support body develops its activities”.

The authority maintained that “the privileged location of our Faculty of Forest Sciences and Natural Resources in an environment of high biodiversity of flora and fauna is a unique characteristic at the national level that allows us to promote excellent training for our undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as also the awarding of highly competitive projects. The foregoing has also strengthened international links with student exchanges and the mobility of academics.

This news is especially gratifying for this Faculty, one of the founders of the University and which is thus preparing for the celebration of its 70th anniversary, a milestone that will crystallize next year 2024.
