The US branded as "offensive" the comments of an Israeli minister who denied the existence of the Palestinian people

March 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The deputy spokesman for the US State Department, Vedant Patel, said Tuesday that the statements by Israel’s Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who denied the existence of the Palestinian people the day before, are “offensive” and could be “dangerous.”

“The Palestinians have a rich culture and history. The United States values the alliance with the Palestinian people and as President Biden said last summer in Bethlehem, the United States remains committed to the two-state solution,” Patel said at a conference press.

Likewise, he has assured that Smotrich is not “the only individual in the Israeli Government” and has indicated that the map shown by the Israeli Finance Minister is “inaccurate”. Patel has also taken the opportunity to express the importance of the relationship between Washington and the “Hashemite kingdom” of Jordan.

Likewise, the deputy spokesman for the State Department has stated at a press conference that the acceleration of Israeli settlements in Palestinian territory undermines the two-state solution and increases tensions in the region.

The Jordanian government summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman on Monday to protest the use of the aforementioned map, which included Jordanian territory and occupied Palestinian territories, by Smotrich, who assured during an act that the Palestinian nation did not exist.
