Twitch is a leading platform in the game streaming industry with a team dedicated to ensuring that it is a safe space and free of dangerous or abusive content. However, there are times when the platform makes decisions that generate controversy among users. Such is the case of Chica, a streamer of Fortnite to which Twitch withdrew a cute emote because, according to them, “incites abuse”.

What happened to the Chica emote?
Chica is a popular streamer of Fortnite who has a large following on TikTok. Through his Twitter account, he reported that Twitch had removed one of his emotes because he presented “directed insults, bullying and threats or incites abuse.”
The emoticon in question is a yellow chick sticking out its tongue and making an “L” shape with its right wing. Although it is a cute and playful emote, his gesture can be considered an insult among the younger public as it is a way of calling someone a loser.

Was it an exaggerated measure?
Despite the fact that the emote may be considered offensive by some people, most users who have raised their voices about this situation believe that Twitch took an exaggerated measure. In fact, many have used this emote in their broadcasts and have not received any complaints from other audience members.

Is there a valid reason behind the removal of the emote?
Although many users believe that the removal of the emote was exaggerated, there are also those who believe they have found the real reason why it was removed. Several streamers have reported that their letter-related emotes (such as “F”, “L”, and “W”) have also been removed from the platform.
What is this about? Apparently there are those who are using the letter emotes to circumvent the Twitch filters and write forbidden words. It’s possible that the removal of the Chica emote is part of a larger measure to prevent this from happening any longer.
However, Twitch has yet to officially explain if this is the reason behind the removal of the emote. Users will have to wait for the platform to issue an official stance to be sure.
