Microsoft shows that EA is more important to PlayStation than Activision Blizzard

Despite the controversy, the Activision Blizzard purchase has brought to light information that would otherwise have been kept secret and serves to account for the current state of the industry. In a new attempt to show the superiority in the console market of PlayStation and Nintendo, the Xbox company presented a comparative graph with the volume of sales that, curiously, shows that Activision is not the only strong distributor of the Sony brand.

Microsoft shows that major publishers sell more games on PlayStation

While Sony insists on ensuring that the purchase of Activision will ruin the competition for them and the industry, Microsoft chooses to present its data and in the recent document that it presented in response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) exposed the major PlayStation distributors (via emopress). Through a graph, the Xbox company showed the volume of distribution and sales of the main publishers, proving that the console market in terms of publication and revenue from the sale of games is in the hands of PlayStation and Nintendo, leaving Xbox in third place.

EA, Ubisoft, and Take-Two are more important than Activision, according to Microsoft

According to the graph, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft and Take-Two Interactive are more important distributors for PlayStation in terms of video game sales than Activision Blizzard, in fact, the publication and sale of titles is much higher on Sony consoles than on Xbox. Most of the lines show the remarkable inclination that there is among the main publishers in favor of PlayStation, something logical taking into account the success that PS4 had and the one that PS5 is having.

With this graph, Microsoft intends to demonstrate that Activision Blizzard is not the only important publisher for PlayStation, so the purchase of Activision Blizzard would not be the disaster that Sony claims. Likewise, another objective is to convince regulators that the acquisition would improve Xbox’s position in the industry, bringing it closer to the levels that the Sony and Nintendo brand currently manage.
