The Palestinian terrorist organization Islamic Jihad has announced this Sunday the death of one of its main operatives in an alleged Israeli operation carried out in the Syrian capital, Damascus.
The deceased has been identified as Ali Ramzi al Aswad, 31, shot dead this morning in an operation that “bears the mark of the Israeli occupiers,” according to a statement from the organization published by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Aharonoth.
The group describes Al Aswad as a “leader” specializing in “the field of engineering” before becoming a “senior commander of the organization.” The note does not give any further details and information from the Syrian media is limited to specifying that the operation took place in the Qudssaya neighborhood, reports the newspaper ‘Times of Israel’.
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has not confirmed the operation during his usual appearance at the weekly Council of Ministers, where he has limited himself to stating that “all those who try to harm the citizens of Israel will pay with their lives.”
The operation takes place less than a day after the Palestinian organization launched a rocket into Israel that ended up hitting an open field, and during a Palestinian-Israeli security summit in Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt), which does not have the backing of the terrorist group.
