BRUSSELS, March 17 () –
The European Union and the United States have agreed this Friday that this is the “right moment” to take a step forward in the dialogue between Serbia and Kosovo, before the meeting in North Macedonia, which is key to advancing in the implementation of Europe’s new proposal to achieve the normalization of relations.
In a telephone conversation, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, reviewed the situation in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and agreed on their “expectations” in this meeting Saturday in Ohrid between the Serbian President, Aleksandar Vucic, and the Kosovar Prime Minister, Albin Kurti.
“Both agreed that it was the right time to take significant steps in the interest of the integration of Kosovo and Serbia into the EU,” said a statement from community diplomacy on the call.
The issue of Serbia and Kosovo is probably the international issue on which Brussels and Washington are most aligned and coordinated. Borrell precisely thanked the United States for its “continuous and clear support” for the EU’s mediation efforts to advance the normalization of relations.
Speaking from Macedonia, where this Saturday he will participate as facilitator of the meeting between Vucic and Kurti, Borrell has insisted that the parties must take advantage of this opportunity. “There are opportunities that should not be missed. Today the eyes of the EU are looking at Ohrid. Let’s hope we succeed,” he said.
