Saudi border authorities have seized more than a million pills of the drug captagon when they intercepted two shipments hidden in trucks at the port of Duba, on the country’s north coast.
Captagon is an illegal substance that mixes amphetamines and caffeine. It is consumed mainly in the Middle East and the Gulf countries, it causes euphoria and reduces fatigue.
At the time it became known because members of the Islamic State jihadist organization supplied this drug to its members, but in reality the use of the narcotic is mainly widespread among drug addicts without resources.
The security forces of countries such as Iraq and Syria — especially this country, along with Lebanon, one of the drug production centers — seize this drug by the ton, as happened last June in the Syrian port of Latakia. and in the province of Hama.
On this occasion, the Saudi authorities have seized 699,000 pills hidden in the tank of one truck and another 579,000 pills in the wheels of another when both vehicles tried to clear port customs, as reported by the Customs and Fiscal Authority ( ZATCA) in a statement collected by the official Saudi news agency SPA.
At least three people have been arrested in the course of the investigation.
With this operation, the Saudi authorities have seized seven million captagon pills in less than a month, counting the two million appropriated at the beginning of March and another 4.6 million seized last Wednesday in the port of Jeddah.
