FBI offers $20,000 reward for information on kidnapped US citizen in Mexico

() — Mexican authorities are collaborating with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the investigation of the kidnapping of a US citizen in Mexico, the Colima state Attorney General’s Office said in a statement on Thursday.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) previously reported this Thursday through a statement issued by its office in Los Angeles, California, that it offers a reward of US$ 20,0000 for information on the whereabouts of this US citizen kidnapped in Mexico.

María del Carmen López, 63, was abducted from her home in Pueblo Nuevo, Colima, Mexico, on February 9, 2023, the Los Angeles FBI said. No other information about her disappearance was shared. The agency is offering a $20,000 reward for “information leading to the physical location” of Lopez.

“The Colima State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) informs that it is collaborating with the Organized Crime Specialized Prosecutor’s Office (FEMDO) of the Republic Attorney General’s Office (FGR) in the investigation of the illegal deprivation of liberty and kidnapping of a Mexican citizen who also has American nationality, events that occurred in a town in the state of Colima,” said the Prosecutor’s Office.

The state Attorney General’s Office opened an investigation on February 9, according to the attorney general’s office. Since FEMDO requested to take over the investigation on February 27, the state Attorney’s Office has shared the information it has with federal authorities and has also collaborated with United States institutions “seeking to clarify the facts and safeguard the integrity of the victim,” said the Attorney.

Lopez is about 5’7″ tall with blonde hair and permanent eyeliner tattoos, the Los Angeles FBI said.
