Chinese president to pay three-day official visit to Russia next week

The President of China, Xi Jinping, will pay an official visit to Russia between March 20 and 22, as confirmed by both governments this Friday, as part of the deepening of bilateral ties and after Beijing presented a plan of peace to end the war in Ukraine.

The spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hua Chunying, has indicated that the visit will take place at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as reported by the Chinese news agency Xinhua. The Kremlin has confirmed the invitation extended to Xi and has indicated that during the meetings “several important bilateral documents will be signed.”

“During the talks, issues will be addressed on the further development of the association and strategic cooperation between Russia and China,” the Russian Presidency pointed out through a statement on its website, in which it added that “an exchange of ideas in the context of deepening cooperation between Russia and China in the international arena”.

Xi’s trip will come weeks after Beijing presented a 12-proposal peace plan for Ukraine in an effort to find a political solution to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, calling for a ceasefire on both sides and advocating the territorial integrity of all countries.
