North Korea confirms the launch of two medium-range missiles into the Sea of ​​​​Japan

North Korea confirmed on Wednesday the launch of two missiles sighted early Tuesday morning into the Sea of ​​Japan a day after Washington and Seoul began military exercises in the region.

The North Korean authorities have specified that the medium-range missiles were launched from Jangyeon, in the South Hamgyong province, and hit Phi islet off Pangjin-dong “with precision”, according to the North Korean news agency KCNA.

“The unit commander (responsible for the drill) said that the enemy will certainly be destroyed in the fighting and expressed his determination to further increase the intensity of the training,” the agency said.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff announced a few minutes before 08:00 in the morning that its neighbor to the North had launched said projectiles, without providing further details, according to the Yonhap news agency.

Pyongyang launched two missiles from a submarine on Sunday in waters near the North Korean city of Sinpo, in the northeast of the country. The projectiles traveled a distance of 1,500 kilometers and flew for 125 minutes until they hit the targets “accurately” in the Sea of ​​Japan.

This launch would be a response to the joint military exercises of South Korea and the United States, which will take place over eleven days, until March 23.
