March 10 () –
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to Rome this Friday and assured Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni that Israel wants to speed up gas exports to Europe through Italy.
Netanyahu has been received by the Honor Guard at the Chigi Palace, guarded by a strong police device due to the protests against the judicial reform that have been carried out very close to the seat of the Italian Government, in the Plaza de los Santos Apóstoles .
Hundreds of thousands of people have demonstrated in recent weeks in Israel to express their rejection of this proposal that, according to their complaints, means the end of judicial independence, with a judiciary that would become subject to the Government and would not be able to exercise the relevant democratic control mechanisms.
In the midst of this situation in his country, the Israeli prime minister traveled to Italy and, during the press conference after his meeting with Meloni, expressed his admiration for the “vision and leadership” of the Italian prime minister.
For his part, Meloni conveyed Italy’s support for the resumption of a peace dialogue between Israel and the Palestinian Authority. “We want to do everything possible to facilitate the resumption of the agreements and the de-escalation of violence,” he said, according to the newspaper ‘Corriere della sera’.
Netanyahu, in addition to meeting with Meloni, has held a meeting with the Minister of Economic Development, Adolfo Horso, and a group of senior managers from various sectors, such as infrastructure, communications or energy, among others.
“I highlighted the potential for economic and trade cooperation between our two countries, and I am excited about the opportunities for growth and progress that lie ahead,” the Israeli prime minister said on his Twitter profile.
