March 10 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Nigerian authorities suspect that the terrorist group Boko Haram is behind the death of 29 fishermen in the town of Dikwa, near the border with Chad, in the state of Borno (northeast) last Wednesday.
Police spokesman Sani Kamilu has reported that the security forces managed to push back the terrorists, reports the DPA agency. Local authorities have detailed that the attackers broke into a motorcycle shooting at their discretion against a group of people.
“The terrorists ordered the victims to lie down. They wrapped them with their fishing nets, tortured them and when they were unconscious they opened fire on them,” says a source consulted by the Nigerian newspaper ‘Punch’.
At least nine people managed to escape the scene, although three of them suffered gunshot wounds of varying degrees. These attacks tend to be frequent in this part of the country, where other armed groups operate.
The United Nations has condemned this “appalling” event and has called on the Nigerian authorities to act quickly to investigate the crime and punish those responsible. In this sense, he stressed that this attack “is another horrible reminder of the real threats of violence and insecurity” that for more than thirteen years has affected a part of the country’s population.
