The Interior Commissioner, Ylva Johansson, has condemned the “despicable” attack perpetrated last Thursday night against a religious center of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the German city of Hamburg, an event in which at least seven people have died.
“Attacks are always despicable, but attacks on places of worship, by definition places of peace, are really shocking,” Johansson said at the start of an appearance before the press in Brussels.
In this way, Johansson has stressed his condemnation of the “brutal act of violence” and expressed the solidarity of the Community Executive towards the victims and their families and friends; while she has applauded the “speed and courage” with which the Police acted.
The commissioner has also expressed Brussels’ support for the German authorities, to whom she has conveyed her willingness to give whatever support is necessary after what happened.
