The UK Government is seeking a new Governor of Gibraltar. This has been made clear by the Foreign Affairs Office (The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) via a job posting on LinkedIn offering an opening for a position currently held by Vice Admiral Sir David Steel.
The job description specifies that the future representative of King Carlos III in El Peñón he will be in charge of managing a series of important constitutional responsibilities. A “demanding but rewarding” job that requires “a high and highly political profile,” according to the ad.
Also, the post includes what appears to be a warning, as candidates are warned –so far only 49 people have applied– that “the territory could be going through a period of change”. Especially since Gibraltar’s negotiations with the European Union on their future relationship after the brexit they might not have reached “a negotiated result” before May 2024, when the chosen one should start performing his duties.
