Syria announces the reopening of Aleppo Airport for Friday

March 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Syrian Ministry of Transport has announced on Thursday that air traffic through Aleppo Airport will resume early Friday morning after suffering an attack by Israel earlier in the week.

The Syrian authorities have valued the damage repair operations carried out by the General Civil Aviation Authorities in cooperation with other national companies, according to the national news agency, SANA.

The Transport portfolio has urged the airlines to resume their operations through the Aleppo aerodrome, at the same time that it has guaranteed that the infrastructure is prepared to receive planes with material and human relief for those affected by the earthquakes that hit the northwest of the country at the beginning of February.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed on Tuesday an Israeli missile attack on the Aleppo Airport facilities as a result of which three people died, one of them a Syrian Army officer. The Syrian authorities confirmed that the airport had been put out of service due to “material damage”.

Aleppo airport has received in recent weeks numerous flights with international aid for those affected by the earthquakes on February 6 in southern Turkey, near the border with Syria, which have left more than 50,000 dead in both countries, including about 6,000 in the Arab country.

Israel generically recognizes attacks in Syria arguing that it acts to prevent the establishment of Iranian bases in the country and the shipment of weapons to the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah by the Iranian authorities, which support Damascus within the framework of the war that broke out in 2011.
