A new Rocksteady game seemed like a dream come true until a few days ago. Everything changed when it was confirmed that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice it will be a game as a service. Yes, the London studio that gave us the acclaimed trilogy of Batman: Arkham now it will bet on the Battle Passes, the permanent connection and the microtransactions.
As expected, the reaction from Rocksteady players and fans was negative. The excitement the game generated with its reveal at DC Fandom 2020 has died down, and the studio is now walking a tightrope. After a catastrophe of games as a service and failures like that of Marvel’s AvengersIt will be Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice Is it another chronicle of a death foretold? Rocksteady in search of the goose that laid the golden eggs
The trilogy of Batman: Arkham It was a watershed for superhero games, but also for single-player titles focused on action and adventure. Rocksteady set the bar very high and many players expected that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice It was a similar game, at least in concept.
Rocksteady forged his fame thanks to the titles of the Knight of the Night. So why leave part of that legacy behind? As you probably already know, games as a service generate billions of dollars a year. Despite the risks of its model, companies continue to bet on it since its success can create machines to print money, such as Fortnite, Apex Legends and Genshin Impact.
We do not blame Rocksteady for wanting to try their luck with the model, after all, some studies have shown that it is possible to reach the goal without dying trying. However, it is a fact that you are walking in swampy terrain that could completely ruin your course.
It’s worth remembering that more than 10 games as a service received their condemnation earlier this year. Among them is Marvel’s Avengersa title that smelled bad even before its premiere and that, unfortunately for the fans, has several similarities with Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice. It’s not just the theme and the superheroes, but everything in the background that seems like a formula for disaster. For this reason, it is not uncommon to know that players predict the premature death of Rocksteady’s game, even months before its release.
Time did its thing with the Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics game, what tells us that the situation with Rocksteady will be different? At first glance, it seems like the studio ignored all the red flags around it, but keep in mind that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice It has been in development for many years and the industry is constantly changing. Unfortunately for its creators, the title will arrive in a market already saturated by games as a service.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice You will probably have trouble positioning yourself against the true giants that hoard the attention and time of many. Thanks to Marvel’s Avengers, we know that it is not enough to have a group of popular superheroes or a renowned franchise to succeed. So Rocksteady has a big challenge ahead.

From hype to disappointment: player criticism
The gameplay of Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice it was a bucket of cold water for many players. Especially for those who trusted that Rocksteady would respect his legacy and all that he had achieved with Batman: Arkham. The anger of the community is understandable, since a prestigious study will bet on an overexploited model, extremely worn and that is driven by greed.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice it seems to have no place or meaning in an industry saturated with games as a service. Many users are simply fed up with this type of experience, its demands, and the repetitive gameplay cycle that it offers. Thus, the excitement for the game vanished and left a trail of disappointment on social networks.
“Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice it’s exactly the game I was worried it would be. Warner Bros. forced Rocksteady to create a game as a service despite their excellent single player games? Was it a bad idea of yours? Or was it a collaboration driven by mutual greed?” one player claimed on Twitter.

Some fans see a wasted opportunity for the series and DC, as they believe that Rocksteady had what it took to make a fabulous single-player of suicide squad. The community is not even happy with the appearance of the title, considering that it looks generic and that it does not reflect anything of the essence of the study. On the other hand, we must add the issue of microtransactions in a full-price game and the need for a permanent Internet connection, even to play alone.
Why do I need to be online when I’m playing alone? It’s called single player, dammit. I love Rocksteady because they respected the Batman games so much, I felt like Batman. This game feels like Fortnite with skins of suicide squad”, pointed out another fan.
Indeed, Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice It feels like it’s been ripped out of that well-worn Games-as-a-Service mold. It sounds like Rocksteady is relying too heavily on the franchise name for its success, which could be costly. For this reason, the players are also concerned, because they know that a setback of this size could compromise the future of the study. Especially after the problems at Warner Bros. Discovery, its parent company.
Without a doubt, the launch will be a litmus test for Rocksteady. The question is that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice seems doomed as of now and it’s unclear if the studio will get another chance. Knowing that the game is set 5 years after Batman: Arkham It is not a kind of consolation for the fans and, apparently, there are no arguments that tip the scales in favor of the study for now.
“I am very concerned about suicide squad. How can you go from arkham (one of the best single player games ever) to this co-op shooter thing?” someone else wrote on Twitter.

whatSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice died before birth?
Despite all of the above, the reality is that there is still nothing said. Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice It could well surprise players and turn out to be a solid proposition. Rocksteady has the experience and talent to bring something exciting to the Games-as-a-Service arena.
However, it is clear that the study will have to put a lot of effort in the coming months. You will need to convince the players that you really have something special and different to offer. You will also need to focus on key moments for the project, such as its launch and the first updates, which will be critical to retaining the user base and keeping their interest alive.
Conversely, if Rocksteady only followed the industry trends and solely relies on the popularity of the IP to stand out, then we can say that Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice died before birth.
