Spotify is completely transformed: launches a clone of TikTok to discover music and other content

Spotify 12

Spotify wants to be more than a music listening service. The application, which some time ago began to bet on the podcasts and audiobooks, has announced at its Stream On event, a redesign that seeks to put the different content formats it offers at almost the same level.

Spotify’s new interface is centered on a feed vertical in the best TikTok style that will be present in the Music and Podcasts and programs categories. According to the company, this substantial change will result in “deeper discovery and more meaningful connections.”

Spotify is renewed with this design

As we can see in the video, the home of the application adopts a new dynamic. When opening the application it does not seem that Spotify has implemented changes, but when choosing any of the content categories we will find the news, specifically, the new feed.

If we tap on Music, for example, some albums and playlists will appear at the top of the screen, while the new content source will inhabit the central part with videos playing automatically as a preview.

The mechanics is very similar to what we find in TikTok, we can scroll “forever” until we find something we like. At that moment we will have the possibility to touch to start the reproduction or also to save it to reproduce it later.

With this update, as we mentioned above, Spotify seeks to put at hand a proposal that goes beyond music. The company has invested millions of dollars in exclusive podcasters for its platform, like the 100 million dollars in Joe Rogan.

In the race to win music streaming, trends come and go: before it was podcasts, now it's AI

On the other hand, the company is sending a clear message to younger users, who are attracted to the TikTok phenomenon. “We discovered that the next generation of listeners yearns for better ways to discover audio before fully immersing yourself in it,” the company says in a press release.
