One of the initiatives of the United States government announced at the Our Oceans Conference (OOC, for its acronym in English) held last week in Panama, was crowned this Wednesday with the announcement by Washington to allocate 800 million dollars for the protection of the marine waters.
“At the eighth OOC, the United States highlighted the global climate-ocean nexus, including the role of ocean-based climate solutions in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving global climate resilience,” reads one sheet. Informational published by the Department of State.
It’s all about the same package of initiatives announced by John Kerrymain promoter of the Conference and special presidential envoy of the United States for Climate Affairs, who announced that to face climate change, an investment of more than 6,000 million dollars is required.
Some of the projects are subject to notification to Congress.
In addition to the climate situation, the amount of 800 million dollars is destined for sustainable fishing and “blue economy”, as well as for the protection of maritime areas and safety at sea, among others.
Areas in the Pacific and Caribbean will benefit from the budget. Research projects and scholarships for leadership training in maritime protection are included in the important financial support.
