Casters, or esports commentators, are the voices that describe what happens on the playing fields. As in other sports, the role of the caster is crucial to transmit to the audience the same passion that is experienced on the battlefields during the games, as well as to comment on the strategies and positions. Until a few years ago, the space was dominated by men but the situation is changing and women are making space in the shows of eSports.
In the tournaments of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang there are two female voices that make themselves heard and shine in every game. They are the professional casters Milita Gaming (Peru), and Carla Held (Brazil), who on the occasion of International Women’s Day, shared their experience within the scene and invited more women to add their voice and talent to the world of video games and esports.
Military participates in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang LATAM Super League, the regional tournament that began its live broadcasts last weekend and that includes Spanish-speaking countries in the area. Carla is part of the MPL BR Season 4 staff, which will begin its regular phase with live broadcasts on Saturday, March 11.
“I tell Latin American women who want to be casters not to give up, to create ties and to help other women… Any project is much easier when there is another woman by your side supporting you”said Carla Held.
Military Gamingalso highlighted the importance of supporting other women and considered that it is not easy to position yourself within the competitive scene, but affirmed that the most important thing is to have a clear goal, an objective for which to fight every day.
“In five years I see myself as an ambassador, a coach for all women who want to go far in esports. Giving up is not among my projects; thanks to Mobile Legends I have known many opportunities to shine and I hope to continue growing”said the Peruvian caster.
Milita’s dream is to be part of the panel of Casters from Latin America in a world championship Mobile Legends: Bang Bang and participate in the event in person. “I would love to be able to feel raw all the emotion of each World Cup game, in addition to meeting my casting idols and the players I admire”, he confessed.
In addition to becoming a benchmark in her area of expertise, Carla’s objective is to develop a social project for the professionalization of women in esports and help mothers who live in a situation of social vulnerability. “Support them so that they have opportunities to study and develop professionally, as well as provide financial aid so that they can dedicate themselves to their studies and have an infrastructure to care for their children during the periods in which they attend classes”explained the Brazilian caster.
On the challenges that women face in the gaming environment, Carla Held assured that a long way has been traveled in this regard, but there is still a lot to achieve. The commentator renewed her invitation for more women to join the gamer universe and make their voices heard, just as theirs sound in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
