Last Sunday the 8th and penultimate episode of the series of The Last of Us from HBO, titled When We Are in Need, which, without going into spoilers, showed one of the strongest events of Joel and Ellie’s adventure. Well, apparently the viewers were looking forward to it, since it has just been revealed that so far it has been the most successful of the entire series.
Warner Bros. Discovery announced that the series was again the favorite on the HBO Max platform for the 8th consecutive week; that is to say, since the series was released it has not left the first place. All the episodes are within the list of the 10 most viewed titles on the platform and the first 5 already average almost 30 million viewers on all platforms.

The Last of Us of HBO continues to break records
Although it seems impossible to raise the bar even more, the production breaks expectations, and as shown is the most recent episode, focused on David and his group of survivors, as HBO reported through a statement that it reached 8.1 million viewers on its opening night. This figure counts the viewers of the TV signal, as well as those of the HBO Max streaming platform, and the statistic comes from first-hand sources from Warner Bros. Discovery and Nielsen.
To put it in context, it is an increase of 74% if we compare the figure with that of the premiere episode. The previous record was held by episode 4, Endure and Survivewhich showcased the climax of Henry and Sam’s story arc and garnered 7.4 million viewers.
This is excellent news for HBO and those responsible for the project, since next Sunday the 9th and final episode of Season 1 will premiere and will mark the denouement of Joel and Ellie’s journey as seen in the first game, and , therefore, it is expected to break the record once again.
