The Russian representative to the United Nations, Irina Tiazhlova, denounced on Monday that the United States authorities have refused to issue visas for the Russian delegation to a UN session on information technology.
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, the Russian authorities have repeatedly denounced this maneuver by the United States, host of the UN institutions and which is obliged to facilitate the participation of all countries in the forums.
“The United States once again baselessly, defiantly refused to grant visas to individual members of the Russian interdepartmental delegation (…). This is a serious violation by Washington of its obligations to accommodate and secure the work of the central institutions of the UN”, Tiazhlova denounced.
Tiazhlova has shown her confidence that the international community is capable of discerning between who is “politicizing” the forum on information technologies and who “is really committed to developing universal solutions,” reports the TASS agency.
Finally, the Russian representative to the United Nations has reported that Moscow has contacted the UN General Secretariat, led by António Guterres, to express its discomfort at this US decision, repeated on successive occasions.
“We would like to appeal to the president (of the meeting) and to the UN Secretary General with an urgent request to take measures to stop such harmful practices. Our priority is to guarantee the true equality of the members of the group,” Tiazhlova has settled.
