UNIFIL confirms an episode of tension between the Israeli and Lebanese soldiers on the border

March 5 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The United Nations Provisional Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has confirmed a verbal confrontation that occurred this Sunday between the Lebanese and Israeli soldiers after a patrol of the latter allegedly crossed the Blue Line, the border between the two countries.

The accusation has been formulated by the Lebanese Army and the UN forces are already in place, at the height of the Aita el Chaab area, to clarify what happened.

According to the Lebanese military statement, “an Israeli enemy patrol crossed the border one meter” before being intercepted by the Lebanese military who forced them to go back, according to the note collected by ‘L’Orient le Jour’.

Hours earlier, a journalist from the Al Manar chain, pro-Iranian and affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah militia party, reported that a Lebanese officer came to push an Israeli soldier before removing an iron bar nailed by the Hebrew soldiers in Lebanese territory.

“We are aware that there are tensions along the Blue Line”, UNIFIL confirmed to ‘L’Orient’, “in an area where Israel is carrying out maintenance tasks, but we ask all parties to remain calm and save unnecessary stress”.

The Israeli Army has not yet ruled on this incident.
